Advanced Airway Management

Facilitated by Dr Ian Summers and Dr Nick Chrimes

Cost: $1,200

Facilitated by Dr Ian Summers, Director of Monash Simulation, and Dr Nick Chrimes, Consultant Anaesthestist at Monash Medical Centre, this full-day workshop will go through the basic structure of the Vortex and techniques of VL Mac and H/A, BVM, surgical airway, SALAD training and fibre-optic techniques through the LMA.

Dislocation Masterclass

Facilitated by Dr Neil Cunningham

Cost: $250

Gain skills in how to assess, plan and perform reduction techniques for every dislocation case. During the dislocation masterclass, the first half of this workshop will cover shoulders (anterior, anteroinferior, luxatio erectae, posterior), with the second half covering everything else – jaws, elbows, fingers, knees.

US workshop – Bedside TTE in Critical Care

Facilitated by Dr Mark Rugless and Dr Rory Whelan

Cost: $250

Aimed at clinicians who are already familiar with basic TTE image acquisition and would like to progress to the ‘next level’. The course covers the assessment of a shock patient – how to assess and describe the causes of shock in all its forms. Areas covered include LV causes shock RV dysfunction (acute and chronic), Tamponade Aortic dissection, IHD basic valvular pathology, advanced haemodynamic assessment and fluid responsiveness, useful measurements and calculations, and what you DON’T need to measure.

Eye and ENT Workshops

Facilitated by Associate Professor Carmel Crock OAM

Cost: $250

Learn about Advanced ENT delivered hands-on, we will have small group instruction and demonstration by Otolaryngologists and ENT Registrars. The workshop will include practical skills including ENT examination, use of tuning forks, pneumatic otoscopy, and much more.

In the hands-on Advanced Eye Workshop, we will have small group instruction and demonstration by Ophthalmologists and Eye Registrars. This team of specialists will provide expert advice and detailed direction on the use of advanced techniques in eye care.

Delivered in two sessions at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, East Melbourne, and suitable for FACEMs and emergency trainees. 

ACEM is the not-for-profit organisation responsible for training emergency physicians and advancement of professional standards in emergency medicine in Australia and New Zealand.

In 2023, ACEM will turn 40. ACEM’s 40th anniversary will provide fantastic opportunities to reflect on, celebrate and explore the rich and growing history of the College, and its evolution. From our pioneering Foundation Fellows to the current cohort of members and trainees who have built on their legacy, it is people who have made ACEM what it is today. We are looking forward to a big 2023 reflecting on, building on and celebrating all that ACEM and its people have achieved over four enormous decades.
